Horror Mania Fest 2014

Limerick’s Gothic mansion Leamy House on Upper Hartstonge St, is to be turned into a haunted house extraordinaire for Horror Mania Fest 2014.

Leamy House will be turned into a walk-through horror maze, starting Friday 17, and Saturday 18 October, and running every evening from Friday October 24 through Sunday November 2, from 6-10pm. Situated in Limerick’s Georgian Quarter, the gothic mansion is sure to make a fine home to the cast of eerie creatures that will take over to make the nightmares of those brave enough to face them look like Mary Poppins for the duration of Horror Mania Fest 2014.

The horrors that will lurk in Leamy House for the event are however not for the faint at heart, and thus require that admission be restricted to young people aged 12 and over.

Modern horror culture, both in film and literature, has its roots in Gothic literature, more so its subgenre of gothic horror, and Gothic sensibilities are still easily traced in the works of many modern horror writers. It is this connection to the gothic that makes Horror Mania Fest a fitting event to take place during the City of Culture initiative ‘Locating the Gothic’, which aims to explore gothic locations throughout the city.
