The local St. Munchin’s Community Centre, Kileely, Co. Limerick was recently nominated to represent Limerick City in the Pride of Place award. IPB Pride of Place 2014 in association with Co-operation Ireland is a competition about people coming together to shape, change and improve daily lives in their communities.

“The competition is about showing respect and inclusion for every sector in our communities, young, old, rich or poor and creating communities to which the people are proud to say they belong.” Tom Dowling, Chairman and Founder of the Pride of Place

Upon judging, which took place on the 23rd of June, St. Munchin’s received some amazing feedback.

“St. Munchin’s Community Centre has had an active role in promoting and developing community involvement within the Parish since its establishment in 2005.The community centre has developed a broad representative base from within the community centre.”

The Judges learned about the aims of the centre. The centre provides a central hub accommodating local service providers, they provide a meeting place for local voluntary groups and they help address and overcome social isolation and exclusion. On top of this St Munchin’s Community Centre identifies and responds to the local needs of its community.

All of the board of management are voluntary. They met and spoke with the judges and discussed how they regularly meet to ensure ongoing projects are carried out and all the local needs are being addressed.
