One of the most amazing and visual legacy projects for Limerick City of Culture is the creation and distribution of LCAP Urban Horse Project sculptures across the city. Not only are the sculptures stunning works of art, but they are also just one of the many ways local youth are engaged by the Limerick Corridor Art Programme (LCAP), which nurtures the talents of young artists across the city, and also helps them develop interpersonal and entrepreneurial skills that are sure to be valuable assets in their future.

Founder of Limerick Corridor Art Programme, Angela Connolly about the project: “The Urban Horse sculptures are a legacy project for Limerick City of Culture and have been inspired by the heritage of the horse culture that exists within the city and suburbs of limerick. These sculptures have all been hand painted by children and young people on the theme “Individuality and identity”.”

“15 Unique original life-size sculptures, will sit on the grassy slopes of the People’s Park from the 19th of September, the night that Limerick embraces the Culture Night and before the end of the year will travel and appear in different locations around the city and will spend some time on the grounds of Shannon Airport to surprise and delight audiences and visitors to our city with their wonderful colours and designs. Each horse has its own story to tell about the people who painted it and each piece encourages audiences of all ages to interact, to sit and to enjoy,” continued Angela.

The Urban Horse sculptures are only one of the many projects that the Limerick Art Programme runs, and young people with an interest in the arts, and learning more about the production and marketing of fine arts, while working to build their talent are encouraged to get involved.
