The Darkest Midnight

An evening of song, poetry and carols from the Irish World Academy in support of Rape Crisis Midwest.

Rape Crisis Midwest have been delighted to announce an evening of song, poetry and carols from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick. It is taking place on Thursday, 27th November in Theatre 1 of the Irish World Academy in the University of Limerick. The event promises to be an evening to suit everyone and guaranteed to get people in the festive spirit with a mulled wine reception on arrival.

A number of exceptional artists and ensembles will feature that evening including the Bavad Gospel Choir directed by Kathleen Turner, Cantoral Chant Ensemble, Mary McLaughlin, Nóirín Ní Riain, Róisni Ni Ghallóglaigh, Sandra Joyce, Sionna Vocal Ensemble and the Bavad Chamber Choir directed by Oscar Mascarenas. Rape Crisis Midwest are also delighted to announce that the event will be hosted by Joseph O’Connor, Novelist, Broadcaster and Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Limerick.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the provision of services at Rape Crisis Midwest  and all artists on the evening will provide their services free of charge.

Rape Crisis Midwest was established 32 years ago and is a regional organisation serving Limerick, Clare and Tipperary. They provide a free and confidential counselling service to both male and female survivors of rape and childhood sexual abuse. Rape Crisis Midwest see approximately 80 clients a week through the doors of their three centres. The head office is based at Phoenix House, Punch’s Close, Rosbrien Road, Limerick. The Clare service is based at Tracklands Business Park, Clonroadmore, Ennis and the Tipperary service is based in Silverview, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
