The 2015 Annual Limerick Choral Festival takes place on Friday 6th, Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th March next, at the Augustinian, Redemptorist & St Joseph’s Churches. Adjudicators for the event will be Dr Róisín Blunnie (Dublin) and Dr Eric Sweeney (Waterford).  This year is a very special year for the Limerick Choral Festival as it marks its 10th anniversary!

Among the Limerick choirs taking part will be the St. Mary’s Cathedral Choir, St Mary’s Church Choir, Limerick Gospel Choir, Unity Gospel Choir Limerick, Ancór and Glenstal Abbey, Murroe Co Limerick.  They will be joined by several school groups such as Parteen N.S., St. Nessan’s N.S. and Coláiste Iosaef Killmallock.  Augmented by choirs from Clare, Galway, Waterford, Dublin, Cork, Tipperary and Wicklow, a total record contingent of over 50 choirs will make up this year’s event – performing a variety of choral pieces ranging from church/sacred music, gospel to early music and various contemporary compositions of all types.

March at 8pm in St Joseph’s Church, O’Connell Avenue.  This event will showcase the rich tradition of choral music in Limerick city and county and will feature performances by 14 choirs from the region (Parteen N.S. Choir, St. Mary’s Cathedral Choir, Limerick Gospel Choir, Holy Trinity Adare, Glenstal Abbey School Choir, The Gúnas, Voices of Limerick, The Bavad Gospel Choir, St. Mary’s Church Choir, Sonas (UL), Unity Gospel Chamber Choir Limerick, Murroe Church Choir, Murroe Church Junior Choir & The Curraghgower Singers.) 

Adjudicators for this year’s event are Dr. Róisín Blunnie, Head of the Music Department at Mater Dei Institute, Dublin City University, where she lectures in a range of academic and practical areas of Music and also conducts the Mater Dei Chorale.  Dr Eric Sweeney is Organist and Choirmaster of Christ Church Cathedral Waterford and was Head of Music at Waterford Institute of Technology for many years until his retirement in 2010.

Another significant notable taking part will be Mr. Daniel Battle as accompanist/organist-in-residence who will perform a closing organ recital at the Sacred Heart Church at 7pm on Sunday 8th March. 

Festival directors, Mr Timothy Schinnick & Dr. Michael O’Brien expressed their appreciation to all those who have actively supported this year’s event or assisted in any way to make up such a significant programme of events.
