To coincide with World Mental Health Day on October 10th, Limerick Mental Health Awareness Week has planned a range of informative, thought-provoking and fun events which will be run across the city from October 4th to October 11th.

Through a series of public talks, exhibitions, workshops and events, the initiative aims to raise awareness of mental health in the local community. It is hoped that the week will provide a forum to generate discussion, reduce stigma and promote positive mental health and wellbeing. Furthermore, it serves as an opportunity to highlight the range of supports and services that are available within the local community to support our mental health.

Limerick Mental Health Awareness Week has been going from strength to strength over the past decade in the city, supported by Limerick Mental Health Association. Currently coordinated by Amanda Clifford, the network of organisations involved includes HSE Mid-West Suicide Prevention Office, Grow, Samaritans, Mental Health Ireland, Doras Lumni, Mens Shed Association, Le Cheile, Console, My Mind, Loss and Grief Group (LIT), Gender Orientation Sexual Health HIV (GOSHH), Blue Cox Creative Arts, Limerick Youth Service and SMRC Urban Run.

Through a collaborative effort between various mental health organisations and a committed team of volunteers, Limerick Mental Health Awareness Week aims to promote positive mental health in the community.

Events are free to attend and all are welcome. For further information, contact Amanda Clifford at 086 081 8827.

Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
