Vision Care Ireland organises fundraisers throughout the city in their commitment to being a good citizen and neighbour in limerick, getting seven individual employee teams come together each year to volunteer their time and raise funds for good causes in the local community.

Sponsored by the company, these cross-functional groups are tasked with selecting their preferred charities, and increasing the company donation through creative fundraising activities. First out of the blocks this year is the D-Shift team, led by Credo Champion, Ciara Hennessy, who hails from Raheen and works in Quality Control.

Thanks to a virtual horse-racing event, attended by colleagues, family and friends, the team succeeded in reaching a total of €4,000, which has now been donated to three  local charities: Cliona’s Foundation (a charity that provides financial support to families with critically or terminal ill children); Console (the national suicide charity), and Novas Initiative (a non-profit, working with those who are disadvantaged and socially excluded, particularly the homeless).

Ciara shares the team story. “Our company values challenge us to give back to society and contribute to the communities where we live and work. My job as champion is to galvanise the team and leverage the funds, provided by the company, so we can maximise our overall donation.

We brainstorm ideas, decide our plan of action, roll up our sleeves and get to work. We select charities that make a real difference locally, and that resonate with us personally. Along the way, we bond as a team, have fun, and enjoy the challenge!”

Paying tribute to Vision Care and its employees, Allison McNamara, Cliona’s Foundation said, “It is estimated that around 400 children in Ireland each year are diagnosed with a serious illness. While we cannot cure the children affected, we can walk in solidarity with the families and help make their financial burden lighter.”

Jim Meaney and Emer O’Neill from Console also expressed their gratitude. “Vision Care and its employees are contributing to the lives of those in Limerick who have been bereaved by suicide, and to helping those who are in suicidal crisis.”

Representing Novas Initiative, Eileen Whelan said, “We work with some of society’s most marginalised individuals in Limerick, many of whom are not served by mainstream services and are excluded from existing voluntary agencies. Our work could not continue without the generous support of others.  We extend a big thank you to the Vision Care team.”
