County Limerick Six year plan launched by Minister Simon Coveney

A new County Limerick Six year plan has been launched to promote a vibrant and inclusive network of rural towns and villages across County Limerick. County Limerick Six year plan.

The Local Economic and Community County Limerick Six year plan Plan 2016-2021, one of a number across the country – has been agreed by a number of stakeholders including the Local Community Development Committee (LCDC), members of the Economic Development, Enterprise and Planning Strategic Policy Committees (SPCs) and representatives of the Social Development and Economic Development Directorates.

The initial socio-economic statement and high-level goals were considered by the municipal district members before members of the public were asked for their views. County Limerick Six year plan.

Following this process, the aims and objectives of the County Limerick Six year plan were presented and agreed at the municipal meetings before going to the full meeting of Limerick City and County Council.

Deputy Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Noel Gleeson said: “It is important that any recovery is felt in rural areas as well as in the large urban areas of the country. This plan is the culmination of around 12 months’ work, which has allowed for extensive and important work to be done on what County Limerick needs.”

“The success of Limerick is also dependent on the betterment of people living and working outside the city. This strategy over the next five years will he improve the standard of living for all.” continues Noel.

Cllr Eddie Ryan, Chair of the LCDC and Cathaoirleach of the Cappamore-Kilmallock Municipal District said: “Following widespread and in-depth consultation, the Local Economic and Community Plan set out its goals. These include a focus on promoting equally vibrant and safe communities, increase the population and incomes, increase the employment rate and reduce unemployment, promote social and economic inclusion and to ensure the protection of the receiving environment across rural County Limerick.” County Limerick Six year plan.

Launching the LECP, Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government, Simon Coveney commended the quality and ambition of the plans: “They deal with priorities that are important to all communities – be it education, youth services, the environment, integration, health and well-being, tourism, or employment. They all reflect an impressive breadth of ambition for their areas and are all underpinned by a shared vision. They are all products of meaningful engagement and participation by all and draw on the wealth of assets in their communities, around which personal, social and economic opportunities can be stimulated, and if managed well, enhance the quality of life and community well-being.”
