Disco Dom is a local limerick legend recognised for his love of music.

Dominic Hannan or more commonly known as Disco Dom, is now becoming an even greater legend in his native Limerick.

Dom explained that his love of music started at the young age of 6, when the nun who was teaching him in school would play “Scottish Soldier” on the record player.  Dom mentioned how he would be “fascinated to go down to the back of the class just to watch her put on the record”.

No one was to know back then just what a huge part music and records would play in young Dominic’s life. In September 1973 Dominic started collecting records. On the 15 of September 1973 Dominic purchased his very own record player. The very first record that Dominic purchased was Chart Busters Support to Eurovision in 1971.

As Dom’s collection grew he bought himself his very own set of decks. The first song that Dom played on his new decks was Paul McCartney and Wings “Let Em In”. His mother had bought him the track as a Christmas present back in 1978. According to Dom it sounded “powerful, absolutely powerful”.

Since he started his collection in 1971 Dominic has over 2000 records. Dominic heard the records on the wireless and then would head out to buy them.

One of Dominic’s heroes was Larry Gogan. He started tuning in back in 1972. In 1986 Dominic got the chance to meet his idol and got his signature. Then in 2015, featuring on the Flynn show, Dominic got to meet Larry Gogan again.

Disco Dom the music enthusiast from Garryowen has gained viral success, reaching 40,000 views online following his appearance on nationwide in 2015.

Having now featured on local and national radio and television Dominic has found the response from the public as “marvellous”.

Now at the age of 59 Dominic can never see himself parting with his records. Dominic described his records as “part of my life” they keep him going.
