Calls for a Focus Ireland Committee in Limerick

Focus Ireland are calling on individuals in companies, community groups and those who have a general interest in creating change in the community of Limerick; to join their Focus Ireland Committee in Limerick. The need committee members and people to be able to give just a little of their time to assist in organizing events, brainstorming ideas, and volunteering to assist Focus Ireland in working to end homelessness.

Focus Ireland has provided homeless services in Limerick since 1998 and the charity is urging the public to get involved in The Broadway Challenge to raise vital funds for their services which are on the frontline of the homeless crisis in Limerick and across the country. It is essential for this that a Focus Ireland Committee is put in place to organise events to help raise those vital funds for the organisation.

Focus Ireland works with people who are homeless or are at risk of losing their homes across Ireland. We offer individuals, and families, advice, support, education and housing to help people to have and keep a home. We believe that everyone has a right to a place they can call home and we campaign to address the causes of homelessness.

In 1985, two years after the initial research Focus Point (now Focus Ireland) opened its doors in Eustace Street, Dublin. The organisation provided street work services to young people, advice, advocacy, information and help with finding a home as well as a warm welcoming place to meet and have a low-cost meal.

Since its foundation Focus Ireland has continued to grow and its research and advocacy work ensures that the rights of people who are homeless remain on the political agenda. In addition to its Dublin projects, it now has services and housing projects across Ireland including in Waterford, Kilkenny, Cork, Sligo and Limerick.

Focus Ireland was founded by Sr. Stanislaus Kennedy. Sr. Stan was involved in a research project into the lives of homeless women in Dublin, when she realised the importance of involving people, who are, or have been directly affected by homelessness, in the development of homelessness services.
