Limerick Writers Centre launches Its a Queer City All the Same

Limerick Writers Centre is pleased to announce the launch of Its a Queer City All the Same, an anthology of LGBT writing from Limerick. The anthology features poetry, prose, essays and more. It also explores the queer experience of Limerick life.

It contains contributors from both the straight and LGBT communities covering themes and issues relevant to all. The work was edited by Shane Vaughan and is sensitive, brave, irreverent, and humorous; above all the writing is original, fresh, innovative and varied and embodies the strength of the region’s queer talent.

The Limerick Writers’ Centre, the publishers of Its a Queer City All the Same is a non-profit support centre for literature in Limerick. It is dedicated to inclusiveness and diversity with a continuing commitment to making literature a vital part of the lifeblood of Limerick city. They are also dedicated to issues highlighting personal creativeness and the quality of life and it is in this context that the Limerick Writers’ Centre tries to facilitate people, facilitates people who have a story to tell.

Its a Queer City All the Same will cover topics and issues not only affecting the LGBT community but it also features input from the straight community. Tackling issues affecting both communities This exciting anthology will be launched by actor and playwright Myles Breen on Sunday June 12 at 3pm. The launch will take place at the Loft Venue at the Locke Bar, George’s Quay Limerick. Its a Queer City All the Same came about as a result of this commitment to facilitate people who may feel marginalised in our society. This follows on from one of their key characteristics  –  their accessibility – they willingly embrace and encourage diverse voices within the community.

Its a Queer City All the Same will be launched Sunday 12 June at 3.00pm in the Loft Venue by prominent actor and playwright Myles Breen. Don’t miss out!

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
