Limerick Student Christmas Market 2016 shows great talent

Limerick Student Christmas Market 2016 at the Milk Market last Friday.

More than 40 mini-businesses from second level schools in Limerick city and county participated in the Limerick Student Christmas Market 2016 at the Milk Market on Friday (16 Dec 2016). The market which ran from 11am-2pm was part of the Milk Market’s Christmas programme and was run in conjunction with the Local Enterprise Office Limerick’s Student Enterprise Programme.

With students being bussed in from all over the county to pick up a few bargains business was brisk with one team from Laurel Hill selling out by lunchtime. There was a wonderful atmosphere, costumed traders, treats aplenty all enhanced by the carol singers from St Michael’s National School.

As well as the brisk sales, thanks to the sponsorship of Markets Alive Support Team (MAST) and Permanent TSB, there was €1,000 in prize money up for grabs in the categories of innovation, best display, team spirit and best individual. The winners were from Castletroy College, Scoil Pol in Kilfinane and Scarrif Community College.

Speaking at the event, Head of Local Enterprise at the Local Enterprise Office Limerick, Bernie Moloney, thanked all the teachers for the support they provide to their students and said: “Looking around at the group of business focused young people here today, there is no doubt that the future of entrepreneurship in Ireland looks very bright indeed”.
