Limerick poet and playwright Mary Coll has launched a new collection of her poems published by Arlen House in time for Christmas 2016.

The collection, accompanied by images created by the visual artist Margaret Lonergan, former Head of Design at NCAD, contains work that is deeply personal and yet hugely engaging. Concerned mainly with the extraordinary nature of ordinary life, the poetry is immediately accessible and resonates instantly with readers.

Silver is Mary Coll’s second collection, but her work has featured previously in numerous anthologies and is often heard on RTE Lyric FM and on RTE’s Sunday Miscellany. Her work for the stage includes Excess Baggage and Anything But Love, as well as radio dramas for RTE’s Drama On One.  The collection was launched by Limerick novelist Helena Close who teaches at The University of Limerick and is the author of Pinhead Duffy, The Cut of Love and The Clever One.

Speaking to a packed foyer at the Belltable for the launch of Silver, Mary Coll said she hopes the contents of the collection of poetry would relate to many readers, touching on subjects such as relationships, travel and family. Mary also spoke highly of the work carried out by Arlen House and similar publishing houses in Ireland:

“I would like you to remember independent publishing companies this Christmas when you are shopping for presents,” she said.

It’s on sale in O’Mahonys, O’Connell Street Limerick and also online from Kenny’s Books in Galway.
