Narrative 4 establishes first global headquarters in Limerick

The official launch of the first global headquarters for the international organization, Narrative 4 took place at 58 O’Connell Street, Monday, June 27.

The launches ribbon cutting attracted various attendees at a local and international level. The launch was blessed with the presence of some renowned authors such as Terry Tempest Williams and Ruth Gilligan.

The fact that Limerick has been selected to be the organisations first global headquarters is a prime example of how Limerick is slowly transforming into a cultural mecca which can only be a positive ahead of Limerick 2020’s bid.

Narrative 4 is a storytelling initiative based project where the young people of the world share their stories in a very creative environment. It brings together a community of artists, educator’s and students to create “improved empowerment and empathy” to the world, through storytelling.

Narrative 4 President and Author, Colum McCann said how “Narrative 4 is like a United Nations for young storytellers, the whole idea behind it is that the one true democracy we have is storytelling. It goes across borders, boundaries, genders, rich, poor — everybody has a story to tell.”

McCann commenced the ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday by quoting Angelas Ashes in describing Limerick as the “perfect place’’ to establish their global headquarters.

He continued to express how “Limerick is a town of stories and storytellers. Limerick is humility to it. I was going to say that it is bouncing back, but it is actually bouncing forward in a pretty incredible way”.

Narrative 4 Executive Director, Lisa Consiglio also attended the launch where she expressed how the first headquarters for their organization in Limerick will be a “model for the rest of the world”.

During the launch, there was a live performance by the prestigious violinist, Colm Mac Con Iomaire and poetry recitals and readings by some up and coming and well-established writers.

This wonderful organisation settling in Limerick has been welcomed with open arms and the future is looking bright for the city for years to come.
