Primary Schools from across Limerick have been invited to take part in an exciting new competition. The Team Limerick Clean up schools competition, Make Big Christmas Tree competition was launched on October 14 by Paul O’Connell at the Crescent Shopping Centre, Dooradoyle, Limerick.

Schools are asked to register online and each class will be presented with a 1.5m high blank Christmas tree to design and decorate.  The aim of the Limerick Clean up schools competition is to promote greater awareness of TLC amongst a younger audience and one hundred decorated Christmas trees will be displayed at the Crescent Shopping Centre in early December. With over 90 Retailers at the Crescent Shopping Centre, and as Munster’s largest Shopping Centre, the Crescent is ideally suited to displaying the finished works of art. The deadline for entries isMonday 24th October.

The competition is divided into three different categories: Category A: Junior Infants to First Class; Category B:Second to Fourth Class and Category C: Fifth and Sixth classes. The winning schools will receive vouchers for school equipment.

Commenting at the launch, Paul O’Connell said; “It’s important that the Team Limerick Clean-up initiative is not just about the oneday event on Good Fridaywe would really like to see young kids becoming more aware of their local communities and the need to keep them litter free all year round. This competition is one way to keep TLC relevant and we’ve received great feedback so far with over 30 schools entered to date and we look forward to more schools registering with us over the coming days”. 

He added; “We are also delighted to be partners with the Crescent Shopping Centre who have been a great support with this campaign. It’s the ideal location and setting to display the “works of art” and I’m looking forward to seeing them in early December”.
