The Summer Stars is free and open to all children.  The emphasis is on reading for enjoyment and for fun.  Each child is invited to register for the adventure at their local participating library and enjoy reading six or more books during the summer holidays.

Children will be encouraged to continue reading throughout the Summer and there will be rewards and incentives along the way.

Children and families will also have access to fun reading activities on the Summer Stars website.

There are also helpful tips for reading and recommended titles by age group for children to read.  The books can then be borrowed from your local library, and it’s all free!

Noreen O’Neill, Executive Librarian at Kilmallock Library welcomed the launch of the challenge.  “The summer months provide an ideal opportunity for children to take the time to find books they really enjoy and experience reading as an activity which is lots of fun,” she said.

“The key to encouraging your child to read is to find the story that is right for them.  There is a huge selection of fantastic books at the Library all waiting to be discovered.  The adventure begins as soon as children are on school holidays or sooner if parents wish.”

It’s easy to become a Summer Star for the 2017 Summer Stars Reading Programme register today at one of the following participating libraries:

Abbeyfeale Library
