‘With thirteen acts this year’s IYMAs was one of the biggest in recent years and a fitting way to reopen Lava Javas (after its renovation),’ said John Real, Limerick Youth Service.

At the end of an entertaining afternoon at Lava Javas, the finalists retired to vote for the winner- a unique feature of the IYMAs, with Elenay emerging as victors in a close race.

‘The standard at this year’s event was very high and is a great reflection of the strong youth music scene in Limerick,’ added John, youth worker, Lava Javas Youth Café.

As part of the youth work programme, Elenay will be joined at the national finals by some of the finalists who will support them on the day and in the build-up, from media coverage to sound and lighting.

‘IYMAs are a great opportunity those interested in all aspects of the music industry, from on stage to behind the scenes, to gain experience of the live music scene,’ said John.

This year the IYMAs are celebrating their tenth birthday and Elenay will have their hit single released as part of an IYMAs tenth anniversary album in December- the 2016 album charted at number 4 in the Irish Top 30.

As he reflected on this year’s competition, John paid tribute to all the performers and their supports who contributed to another special Saturday afternoon at Lava Javas.

Limerick Youth Service would like to congratulate Elenay on their success and wish them the best of luck in the national finals which will take place on Saturday, April 22nd at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium at part of Youth Work Ireland Week.

The IYMAs are a youth work music programme supported by Youth Work Ireland and RTE 2FM.

A member of Youth Work Ireland, Limerick Youth Service remains committed to supporting and encouraging young people to be active participants in shaping their futures.
