Gavan Hennigan to Give Talk at Limerick School of Art and Design

Gavan Hennigan, heroic Atlantic rower is giving a talk in Limerick on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the Limerick School of Art and Design. Gavan Hennigan, the Galway man who recently shattered the record for single-handed rowing across the Atlantic, is to give a talk about his experiences at 7.30pm sharp on Thursday, April 6 at Limerick School of Art & Design Conference & Gallery Space, in Limerick city.

Gavan HenniganGavan, who rowed single-handed from the Azores to the Caribbean in a mere 49 days, broke the previous best time for the 5,000km distance across the Atlantic Ocean. The previous record for an Irishman on this traverse was 118 days, set by Limerick man Sean McGowan in 2010.

Gavan Hennigan is an adventurer and deep-sea diver. As a young man, he struggled with drug and alcohol dependence before reforming and testing himself with outdoor challenges. Gavan is also deeply involved in promoting awareness of mental health in teenagers through his association with Jigsaw. His row was in aid of Jigsaw, a support service for young people in his local Galway area and also Cancer Care West. Jigsaw is soon to open a branch in Limerick and will provide vital support to Limerick young people with their mental health through a free one to one therapeutic approach and workshops throughout local communities.

This talk has been organised as part of a fund-raising effort for a new clubhouse for Cullaun Sailing Club, one of the most active sailing clubs in the midwest located on Cullaun Lake near Kilkishen Co. Clare.
