Forty-one individual artists and community groups across Limerick city and county have secured funding to the value of €20,000 as part of the Grants Under the Arts Act scheme.

The grants follow approval by councillors at the March meeting of Limerick City and County Council. The annual scheme offers grant funding to amateur, community or voluntary groups, or organisations, and individual arts practitioners who stimulate public interest in the arts, promote the knowledge, appreciation and practice of the arts or assist in improving the standards of the arts.

The Grants Under the Arts Act Scheme funding supports amateur, community or voluntary groups, or organisations, and individual arts practitioners, who stimulate public interest in the arts, promote the knowledge, appreciation and practice of the arts or assist in improving the standards of the arts.  Grants up to a maximum of €1,000 can be awarded.

The Grants Under the Arts Act Scheme applications were considered by an independent selection panel, appointed by the Arts Office of Limerick City and County Council who made their recommendations to the elected members for approval.

Grants ranging from €110 to €900 have been awarded this year under the scheme to Limerick artists and groups, with the average grant valued at €480.

Grant aid was awarded according to the Limerick Cultural Strategy: A Framework 2016-2030 including artistic merit and relevance to Limerick Artistic Programme, a proven track record, the impact the programme/ act will have on the public and originality and innovation.

Sheila Deegan, Arts Officer with Limerick City and County Council said: “This grant fund is always very popular and this year 75 applications were received and 41 awarded.  The independent panel was impressed with the quality of the applications and we look forward to seeing the realisation of these funded projects in the future.”
