LYS Members Graduate from Junior Leadership Programme

Limerick is 85 leaders stronger today as young people who took part in a Junior Leadership programme with Limerick Youth Service, received their Certificates of Achievements a graduation ceremony at the Northside Youth Space, Ballynanty recently.  

The training focused on areas such as communication and committee skills while improving the social and personal development of the participants.  

‘The programme covered an array of topics such as welcoming new members, communications, body language and organising events such as discos & interclub visits,’ said Limerick Youth Service’s Lisa O’Connor.  

‘As part of the training the young people engaged in discussions that addressed understanding diversity, dealing with conflict, problem-solving and the respective roles and responsibilities with a club,’ explained Lisa.

Addressing the graduates Limerick Youth Service’s Maurice Walsh congratulated the young people on their success. 

‘Your commitment to the programme was commendable as you gave up your free time to take part in it,’ said Maurice Walsh, Limerick Youth Service’s youth work manager.   

‘The skills you have learned will stand you in good stead as you assume leadership roles in your respective youth clubs and groups,’ said Maurice adding ‘they will also compliment your CVs as you seek employment.  

Limerick Youth Service wishes to congratulate the young people who represented a number of youth groups including Annacotty-Castletroy, Ballingarry, Clonlara, Fedamore, Queen of Peace/Janeboro, St. Mary’s, St. Patrick’s, St. Senan’s/Foynes  youth clubs in addition to members of King’s Island Garda Youth Diversion Project, Lava Javas Youth Café and Rathkeale Youth Space.  

The Junior Leadership Programme is accredited by Youth Scotland and delivered by youth workers from Limerick Youth Service.  

A member of Youth Work Ireland, Limerick Youth Service remains committed to supporting and encouraging young people to be active participants in shaping their futures. 

‘They were a fantastic group and the skills they have learned will be of great benefit to themselves, their clubs and communities,’ said Ms O’Connor, who congratulated the young people on completing the programme.  

The Junior Leader Training programme is based on Youth Scotland’s Involvement Training programme and is accredited by their colleagues in Scotland. 

The youth people were from Annacotty-Castletroy, Cappamore, Castleconnell, Clonlara, Fedamore, Granagh and St. Patrick’s youth clubs/groups.
