Mary Immaculate College (MIC) is delighted to announce that the Annual MA in Education & Wellbeing of the Older Person Free Public Lecture Series will take place throughout March. According to Liz Early, MA in Education and Well-being of the Older Person programme coordinator; “These lectures are a must for all those interested in issues affecting older people in society today. As the provider of the unique MA in Education and the Well-being of the Older Person degree, we are delighted to be offering this opportunity for people to engage with the key issues around ageing.’ 

As part of the series Dr Anne Nash, Mary Immaculate College lecturer will present two workshops on the representation of old age in literature.  Lecture one will see Dr Nash explore the works of Simone de Beauvoir in the Coming of Age and Lynne Segal’s The Pleasures and Perils of Ageing. In the second lecture, Dr Nash will summarise William Trevor’s writing, in particular, The Old Boys, which reveals Trevor’s remarkable insights into the lives of a group of elderly men and women.   

The Masters of Arts in Education and Well-being of the Older Person is a new programme offered by Mary Immaculate College. Recognising that educational needs differ along the lifespan the proposed new programme aims to address the largely unmet educational needs of older persons across different settings.

The lecture series at Mary Immaculate College will take place on two different dates; Friday, March 3rd and Friday, March 10th from 6.30pm to 9 pm. They will take place in Room T204 of the Tara Building at Mary Immaculate College. All of the talks are free to attend, but pre-booking is required. Further lectures are to be announced at a later date.
