On April 15, 2015, one family’s whole world was turned upside-down when they tragically and suddenly lost their precious little girl Lola, aged just 17 months, to Meningitis. Nothing could have prepared them for the devastation that losing a child would cause and since then they have worked relentlessly to prevent another family from going through their nightmare, by raising awareness of Meningitis and raising funds for the charity ACT for Meningitis in an effort to help them ensure that no one faces the Meningitis journey alone.

On Saturday, April 22, Lola’s family will host the Second Annual Lolas Ball 2017 at the Greenhills Hotel in Limerick, in her memory. Thanks to the amazing support from the people of Limerick and beyond last year, Lola’s Ball 2016 raised a phenomenal €16,786.10, and all funds raised at the ball this year will once again go directly to the charity.
“We never thought meningitis would affect us but it did”, says event organiser and Lola’s sister Leah Melling. “We are organising this ball to remember our beautiful Lola, to raise funds, but also to raise awareness of Meningitis because knowing the signs and symptoms may just save a life. We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received so far and would welcome any raffle prizes or donations to help make this night a massive success”
Sinead Desmond will host Lolas Ball 2017.
Lolas Ball 2017 will be presented by RTE’s “Winning Streak” presenter, Sinead Kennedy, will kick off with a fun filled red-carpet prosecco reception at 7pm followed by a delicious four-course meal with wine and a full entertainment line-up including Tiny Giants, MizDrea, Leon Anderson Magician, Laura McLoughlins Fame Academy Dancers, DJ Ian McLoughlin and lots of surprises throughout the night. ACT for Meningitis is a national meningitis support and awareness charity based in Galway. Set up in 2011 by Siobhan and Noel Carroll following the loss of their daughter Aoibhe, aged 4 to this devastating disease, to raise awareness, promote education and provide free support to anyone in Ireland affected by meningitis.
