Located in the shadows of the iconic Thomond Park, Limerick Youth Service’s Northside Youth Space is home to a number of community-based youth work projects and programmes. This new youth centre which was made possible thanks to the funding provided by JP McManus, is a safe space where young people are respected and free to take part in youth work activities and programmes. This space is home to a diverse number of youth projects that encourage and support the social and personal development of young people. The Northside Youth Space offers a variety of services to young people such as youth information, the Youth Mental Health Project, The Steps Youth Café, youth and family support and Traveller groups support. The Northside Limerick Youth Service also offer a variety of educational programmes under the Limerick Youth Service who are a leading provider of youth work and educational training programmes for young people

Speaking at the official opening, Minister Michael Noonan praised the services offered by the Northside Youth Space stating “it’s very important to have spaces like this where young people can learn other skills about the outside world. They can learn socialisation skills, and this is being done here in an absolutely excellent way”

Minister Noonan went on to thank the people working at the Northside Youth Space, the volunteers and the young people saying “The building is beautiful, but of course, no matter how beautiful the building is, it wouldn’t deliver the service if it wasn’t for the people working here.

After cutting the ribbon and speaking at the event, Minister Michael Noonan was presented with a framed picture which was taken as part of a youth mental health project carried out last year through the service. Aaron O’Neill, one of the youths availing of the Northside Youth Service who made the presentation said the new centre is a “focal point for the community”.

Aaron O’Neill added “People come here from Balla (Ballynanty), Moyross and Thomondgate. There’s never anyone sitting here with a frown. It’s brilliant here,”.
