Limerick Printmakers have taken over The Hunt Café walls throughout 2017 adding a unique ambience to Limerick’s best riverside café. There will be a series of Kate McElligott throughout the month of July.

Jack B. Yeats and Paul Henry: Contrasting Visions of Ireland

Friday, June 2^nd – Saturday, September 30^th

For the entire summer the Museum is featuring two of Ireland’s most important 20th-century artists, in the exhibition Jack B. Yeats and Paul Henry: Contrasting Visions of Ireland. Billed to be an exhibition of both national and international significance, it features 50 works, many of which are not usually on public display. This brings together paintings drawn from private and public collections including works from the European Investment Bank Collection in Luxembourg.

He will deliver this lecture focusing on a 16th-century map of Limerick attributed to Edmund Yorke and its relation with other early cartographic representations of the city.

Highlight Lecture with John Elliot – Mapping a Renaissance City: Limerick in 1590

Monday, July 3^rd 1 pm- 2 pm

John Elliot, of Limerick Museum and Archives, is currently working on the Digital Atlas of Limerick. He will deliver this lecture focusing on a 16th-century map of Limerick attributed to Edmund Yorke and its relation with other early cartographic representations of the city.

Artist Conversation with Brian MacMahon

Wednesday, July 26th, 11 am – 12 pm

Join us for an informal discussion with Brian MacMahon, a rigorous and intense painter, renowned for his richly coloured, heavily worked canvases of landscape, still life and figurative subjects. He will talk about his artistic practice.

Summer Exhibition Lecture Series

Thursday, July 20^th, 1 pm – 2 pm

In conjunction with the Summer Exhibition Jack B. Yeats and Paul Henry: Contrasting Visions of Ireland, a lecture series will take place once a month. In July, come along for a lecture by Mark Patrick Hederman entitled ‘Jack and Paul: Two Views of the Turf-Cutter’s Donkey’.

Lunchtime Poetry Reading

Every Friday in July, 1 pm – 2 pm

The Limerick Writers’ Centre in association with The Hunt Museum presents Lunch Time Poetry Readings. Every Friday, two poets will give a reading in the Captain’s Room. These lectures will be preceded by a piece of music performed by local musicians.

Workshops

Introduction to Book Binding with Eilish Murphy

Saturday, July 8^th, 10 am – 12 pm

Create a variety of folded books with bookbinder Eilish Murphy. Starting with the concertina book, we will build upon this binding to create mutant books including a ‘hot dog’ book. 12 workshop places only. 6 participants minimum to be viable. Cost: €25 per person. Booking and advance payment required.

Neckpiece Workshop with Siobhán Daly Designs

Saturday, July 29^th, 10 am – 1 pm

In this workshop participants will create their own personalised neckpiece. Siobhán will give expert guidance and direction and will support each person to develop their own design incorporating a variety of materials. Basic sewing skills required. Basic materials will be supplied but to achieve a personalised piece, participants are encouraged to bring along broken jewellery and other trimmings. 12 workshop places only. 8 participants minimum to be viable. Booking and advance payment required.

Kids & Families

Kids Arts & Crafts Club

Sunday, July 2^nd 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm

The Kids Arts & Crafts club is a chance to enjoy getting crafty with your kids, with a different theme every session. Suitable for ages 4 – 8 years old.

Summer Interactive Family Tours and Creative Response Sessions

Saturday, July 15^th 11 am to 12 pm & 1 pm to 2 pm

Come along and creatively connect with the landscapes and figures depicted in the wonderful artworks of Yeats and Henry. Drawing on a range of media and textures, create your own masterpiece.

Summer Camp

6 weeks of camp commencing on each of the following Mondays: July 17^th, July 24^th, July 31^st, August 7^th, August 14^th, August 21^st

This camp will be inspired by the 20th-century artworks on display in the Summer exhibition by Paul Henry and Jack B. Yeats. Through drama, music, puppetry, clay and college activities, camp kids will inhabit these paints and connect with the characters depicted in them. Many more creative activities will also be included.
