EmployAbility Launch the new Work Shadow Programme

EmployAbility Limerick, the local experts in Supported Employment for people with disability, illness or injury recently launched their Work Shadow Programme. EmployAbility Limerick is a local registered charity made up of a board of representatives from a variety of other disability groups, mental health services as well as local employers. Their new initiative was launched at the Mid-West Mentoring Business Group on Tuesday, June 6.

They ran a similar Job Shadow demonstration of commitment to disability confidence in May 2016 and for this demonstration, a record number of businesses across Limerick hosted job shadow opportunities for job seekers with a disability. EmployAbility Limerick was delighted with the response from Limerick businesses.

EmployAbility is very committed to providing a professional employment service for people who have suffered from illness, injury or a disability and to also tend to local business recruitment needs throughout Limerick city and county.

This previous Job Shadow was an opportunity to demonstrate disability confidence in a simple way, to promote inclusive workplaces and communities and to shine a spotlight on people’s abilities and interests. The Work Shadow Programme will follow a similar course of action but on an ongoing basis.

Ursula Mackenzie, Co-Ordinator of EmployAbility, spoke about the benefits of the Work Shadow Programme, “This programme is a three-strand initiative to allow our participants to sample the world of work and explore different career options. It will operate on an ongoing basis throughout the year and we are encouraging businesses to get on board and support it.”

James Edinborough of Efone, based in Castletroy and a Disability Champion of EmployAbility said, “We have availed of Work Shadow and Work Trials and found it very beneficial in assessing potential employees and giving participants the opportunity to understand our business. Some of the participants have gone on to be employed by us and are still an essential part of our team”
