Team Sophie Mul Calling People To Join Couch To 30k 6 week programme

Team Sophie Mul are inviting people to join in on their Couch to 30k 6 week programme. The Couch to 30k programme is in association with Sophies Journey Foundation and Bike for Life. Through this programme, you can get familiar with cycling on the road and with others, learn bike handling skills and learn basic bike maintenance.

Team Sophie Mul, who are running the Couch to 30k programme, were formed in June 2015. Team Sophie Mul is a cycling club dedicated to the memory of Sophie Mulcahy and giving support to Sophie’s Journey Foundation. It’s a relaxed leisure club welcoming all abilities. There is also a very active junior section in the club. Team Sophie Mul are cycling Ireland accredited.

The senior section of the club meet most Sundays for a leisure spin as well as partaking in local leisure sportives. A mid-week spin also takes place where weather permits. Weekend spins and summer mid-week spins include an all important coffee stop. Everyone is welcome to join Team Sophie Mul on a spin and no rider gets left behind.

Sophie’s Journey Foundation, which Team Sophie Mul is dedicated to, was developed by Liam and Stacey Mulcahy as a foundation in January 2015 to support families who were dealing with children with life-limiting Conditions in memory of their daughter Sophie who sadly passed from Kidney Failure on October 23rd, 2014. Sophie had a rare condition called 1Q43. Throughout her short few years, Sophie inspired so many people to achieve the impossible and she was at the centre of many events that brought people together. Anyone who knew her well were touched by her. Liam and Stacey started fundraising in 2007 to thank the organisations who saved her life and helped raise huge funds that went to families to help with the children’s needs. Sophie’s family now give a 100 percent commitment to this foundation in memory of Sophie’s Legacy and to help improve the conditions that families with children with life-limiting endure on a daily basis.

Team Sophie Mul are calling anyone over 16 and looking to get on a bike to join in on their Couch to 30k programme. The 6-week programme will begin at 6.45pm on Tuesday, May 23 at the University of Limerick. All you need to get involved in the programme is a bike in good working order and of course, a helmet. Couch to 30k will be led by Cycling Ireland qualified coaches. With the programme costing a mere €20 including insurance, the Couch to 30k is not only a brilliant way to get fit and healthy but is also for a wonderful cause.
