The Hunt Museum Present: Rita Duffy Alternate Truth

On Friday 13th October, documentary filmmaker and theatre director Art Ó ’Briain opened an exhibition at the Hunt Museum to showcase a collection of new works by Irish artist Rita Duffy, in Alternate Truth.

The Hunt Museum is delighted to present this exclusive exhibition as a wonderfully innovative response to the Museum’s permanent collection.

The exhibition will explore the inventive and humorous narratives Duffy has applied to various objects of the Museum, utilising historical and literary elements, and insight gained through the Museum Docents, portraying these objects in new environments.

Born in Belfast in 1959, Rita Duffy has received a BA at the Art and Design Centre and an MA in Fine Art at the University of Ulster. She is one of Northern Ireland’s groundbreaking artists and began her work focusing on the figurative/narrative tradition.

Duffy’s work has grown and evolved but remains personal, exploring themes of an autobiographical, historical and political nature applying surrealist connotations to her subjects.

She has initiated several major collaborative art projects and was made an Honorary Member of the RSUA for her work within the built environment. Her work is increasingly shown around art exhibitions all over the world.

Her Belfast studio continues to develop and her public art projects are increasingly preoccupied with international themes. Duffy’s work continues to be collected in numerous public and private collections at home and abroad.

This is both a unique exhibition and collaborative project with the Hunt Museum, allowing for the playful reinvention and reinterpretation of the variety of treasures in the Hunt Museum collection, breathing new lives into these objects. Alternate Truth will feature 37 works and will be on display until Monday 20th November.
