The certificates were presented to them by Area Director of Units for Limerick Dr. Andrew Kelly at the Limerick City’s branch headquarters at 58 Henry Street on Thursday 7 September. Certificates were also presented on the night to members who had completed their Intermediate First Aid Course.

The Cardiac First Responder at Community Level course is designed to provide the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation – CPR, use an Automated External Defibrillator – AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. A Cardiac First Responder plays a vital role in keeping a person alive until they can receive expert clinical care.

The members who received their certs joined the organization in January and have now completed the membership process as well as their Practical First Aid and Intermediate First Aid courses. Some of these members will also go on to partake in an Emergency First Responder Course in due time.

The Limerick Area of the Irish Red Cross was founded in 1940 with just a small number of members. They now have more than 600 members actively volunteering for the Irish Red Cross in Limerick City and County. The organisation offers a range of services including first aid and ambulance cover at events, first aid training, health and social care support and a Red Cross Youth section.

As part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, they endeavor to abide by the Seven Principles of the Red Cross.

The Limerick Area of the Irish Red Cross will also be holding an information night on September 21st from 19:30 at 58 Henry Street.

They are looking for adult volunteers to come and join the organization. There will also be information on the night for those wishing to take part in their Practical First Aid Course which starts on Tuesday September 26th and runs for 6 weeks.
