The tournament was a huge success as the teams played some very competitive games with great goals and players. It was just one of the several events being held this week as part of Africa Day 2017.

The theme for 2017 is ‘Beyond Africa’, where the local community will aim to highlight the positive experiences of living in their new country and in their new homes beyond Africa.

The week was launched by Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon on Monday, May 22nd. On Tuesday the Limerick Youth Service hosted ‘Taste of Africa’ to provide people with a sample of African food from 3 countries.

Still to come in the week is the ‘World Café’ conversation in the Strand Hotel on Thursday, May 25, Sudanese Cultural Exhibition at Partry House on Friday and the Africa Soccer Cup on Saturday, May 27th at Janesboro Football Club with prizes for the winners.

The final and main event will be a family fun day at the Milk Market on Sunday, May 28th. Activities and Entertainment will include African dancers, a fashion show, Limerick Gospel Choir, face painting and balloon modelling.

A volunteer recognition event will take place in City Hall afterwards with the Mayor presenting certificates to all volunteers involved in this year’s programme.
