This year’s mini marathon was officially launched at the Strand Hotel today where Alice O’Dwyer, VP of HR at Cook Medical Group Europe, detailed why the company, which employs 900 locally, is once again the lead sponsor of the event.

Participants will be able to run, jog or walk a 5km course that takes them around the grounds of the University of Limerick, or a 10km course that extends to Castletroy.

“It is a relaxed and fun event for women in Limerick, and we are proud to be playing an important role in supporting events in our local community,” O’Dwyer said. “As a manufacturer of medical devices, health and wellness is very important to us as a company. Fitness, both physical and mental, brings vitality to participants and helps people of all ages lead a healthy and happy lifestyle.

“The Limerick Womens Mini Marathon 2017 is an excellent way to promote well-being and to encourage women of all ages and abilities to be active and take part in a really worthwhile event.”

Cook is not alone in sponsoring the race, which encourages participants to walk, jog or run the two scenic courses. The Cook Medical Limerick Womens Mini Marathon 2017 is used by many local charities as an important opportunity for annual fundraising. Speaking today, John Cleary, Race Director encouraged participants of all ages and abilities to register early.

“The Cook Medical Women’s Mini Marathon is a highlight on the sporting calendar for thousands of women locally. We are delighted to have the support of Cook Medical once again for 2017. As well as the thousands of women taking part, many local charities will also use this event as a welcome opportunity for fundraising. We look forward to building on the success of 2016 and making the 2017 event bigger and even better.

“We encourage people to register on our website to avoid disappointment. This event will be the headline event of the October Bank Holiday weekend and promises to be another great weekend for Limerick.”
