Rape Crisis Midwest would like to invite the public to their upcoming Volunteer Information Evening on Wednesday, 27th September, 7.00pm, in their Limerick centre. Rape Crisis Midwest is situated in Phoenix House, Punches Close, Rosbrien Road, Limerick. This is a great opportunity to visit their centre and learn more about the work they do. They would encourage anyone interested to come along and learn more about various volunteering opportunities available.

Voluntary positions include that of psychological support work, court accompaniment, volunteer counselling, event co-ordination and much more. Rape Crisis Midwest would also like to stress that this is an information evening in nature, with no pressure to sign up for positions. Volunteering can be an incredibly fulfilling experience, and also presents opportunities to meet kind and compassionate people along with learning and growing new skills.

Their service currently helps over 80 survivors of rape and sexual abuse each week, with this number always changing and unfortunately often rising. They acknowledge that without the continuing support of a group of dedicated volunteers it would not be possible to maintain their core services and support – support that can even act as a lifeline during times of crisis for their clients. With this, they would like to sincerely thank all past and present volunteers within the charity for their selfless work.

The Centre was founded in 1980 as Limerick Rape Crisis Centre, by a group of women and men who were concerned about the lack of services for survivors of rape and sexual abuse. Since then it has worked to provide comprehensive information, professional support and a quality counselling service for survivors of sexual abuse and violence throughout the Midwest region.
