Unity Gospel Choir Limerick (UGCL) are based in St Paul’s Church in Dooradoyle under the direction of Gretta O’Shea and have served the community performing at many different events during this past year. They are fast becoming a joyful enthusiastic sound for Limerick people to own and be proud of.  Though UGCL is almost 2 years together, on Tuesday December 16 they will present “Joyful Christmas”, their gala debut Christmas concert in The Augustinian Church at 8pm. Over the past 20 months they have been fundraising to supply the choir with new gospel choir gowns, through a lot of fundraising and some very generous sponsors and they will be debuting their new gowns at the event. Also performing on the night will be The Aherlow Gospel Choir and Hands In Harmony The Midwest first Deaf Choir.

All the proceeds form the concert will go to the Zondra Meaney fund. Zondra Meaney is a young Limerick mother with a very disabling disease called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a genetic connective tissue disorder. Zondra has been attending different experts in London but the cost is not covered by the treatment abroad scheme, the government or by health insurance. So friends and family have been tirelessly fundraising to cover Zondra’s treatment so far. Zondra and her family have since received more shocking news; the doctors have also found a condition called a Chiari Malformation at the base of Zondra’s brain. Her skull is putting pressure on the base of the brain, and her brain is coming out of the skull. She also has cranial instability, so every time she turns her head it is dislocating off of her spine. Zondra needs Brain Surgery but the only specialist surgeon available to do this kind of surgery is an American surgeon called Dr. Henderson. The surgery will have to be done in America and will cost a huge amount of money. Zondra is a very lovely young mother with a 6 year old son and despite her severe painful disease, she is positive and upbeat about her life. Being well to enjoy some quality with her little boy and her loving family is truly what Zondra is working towards every day. Please come and support the event and help Zondra get to America.
