061 Recordings Give Artists the Platform they Deserve

By I Love Limerick Correspondent Sinead Fitzgibbon

061 Recordings is a growing project that originates in Limerick. It is run by a group of young filmmakers that are also passionate about music. The group produce music videos for Irish artists with the hopes of getting them the recognition they need. 061 Recordings say homegrown talent often gets lost in the large online talent pool. They want to give the artists the platform they deserve.

061 Recordings was born July 2018 from a love of music and a passion for filmmaking by 7 talented young people. Eibhlin O’Regan, producer and photographer for 061 Recordings, told iovelimerick that they ‘noticed that there was so much musical talent in Limerick but there was no one promoting them’.

Spice Vintage is Limerick’s newest vintage shop owned by Gracie Collier. The groovy shop is located on Harvey’s Quay and sells the most desirable vintage clothes around. The shops unique interior and relaxing aesthetics grabbed 061 Recordings attention as the ideal location for their unique vibe to shine through their videos.

Firstly, the filmmakers focused their attention on local talent but as they have grown Eibhlin said ‘we started getting people from around the country that were messaging us on Instagram and Facebook asking how to get involved’. Artists have travelled down from all over Ireland including Tralee, Dublin and Kildare.

061 Recordings have uploaded consistently on their YouTube channel for the past 7 months, showcasing musically talented artists. Well-known Limerick artist Emma Langford performed Joni Mitchell’s Christmas song ‘River’ back in December 2018. Other established artists have also featured on 061 Recordings YouTube channel including, Ryan O’ Shaughnessy and Wheatus. The group are actively looking for unique locations to shoot unique artists. For example, Emma performed at Santa Experience in Jetland Shopping Centre, Limerick. Although, Eibhlin admitted ‘Spice will always be our home!’

Eibhlin talked about what motivates the group to keep going ‘I suppose, our motivation is seeing how excited the artists get when they get the video’. 061 give young artists a free platform to highlight their musical talent. Eibhlin also said that the group thoroughly enjoy the process of organizing, putting the footage together and hearing the feedback.

Regarding 061 Recordings hopes for the future, Eibhlin said ‘to keep pushing forward and see what happens, there are no set plans we’re still in our trial and error stage because we are so new. It would be cool to be able to turn it into a job at some stage’. For now, Eibhlin and the team are focusing on building their brand while discovering new artists and trying out different styles and camera techniques.
