Limerick woman Georgina Mulcahy has organised a fundraiser in aid of Milford Hospice at the Milford Care Centre in memory of her father, George Mulcahy.
George passed away from pancreatic cancer 10 years ago and spent his final days in Milford Hospice, making Milford Care Centre an organisation close to her heart.
The 10k for George Mulcahy event was organised as a way to celebrate George’s life on his 10th anniversary and raise money for Milford as the family’s way of saying thank you to the nurses and staff who showed so much respect and support to those in their care during their final days.
“We are asking you, your families & friends to join us to rack up 10k for George Mulcahy between Monday, February 14 – Saturday, February 19. You can walk, run, cycle, swim whatever you like. Due to Covid, this can be done by yourself in your own time with no pressure. We would really just ask you to make any donation to the go fund me once you have done your 10k. Every euro counts,” Georgina explained.
“We would ask to make any donation to our GoFundMe page where all proceeds will go to Milford Hospice Care Centre. Even if you don’t take part and would still like to donate, please do!”
To date, an amazing €1,345 has already been raised out of Georgina’s €1,500 goal.
Georgina has created limited t-shirts for anyone taking part, so make sure to contact her via Instagram or Facebook if you’re taking part in 10k for George Mulcahy and would like one!
She is also inviting anyone who takes part in the event to share any pictures or videos they take during the 10k with her as she hopes to create a video at the end of the fundraiser as a keepsake.
Milford Care Centre is an organisation close to the hearts of many in the Mid West. The voluntary, not-for-profit organisation and registered charity were first established by the Little Company of Mary Sisters in 1928 and now provides Specialist Palliative Care and Older Persons Services in the Mid West.
Milford Hospice is person-centred and aims to provide comfort, autonomy, and rehabilitation. They affirm life while integrating the physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of care particular to individual needs. They encourage advanced planning rather than crisis intervention.
They are a massive support to the community of Limerick, and funds raised from the event will be put into the much-needed services they provide.
