The Federation of Gay Games (FGG) Site Selection Committee came to the Treaty City and an event was held in the Milk Market to welcome the visitors. Limerick along with London and Paris have been shortlisted as a possible location for the 2018 Gay Games and if the Limerick bid is successful the event will see 10-12,000 participants and 15,000 spectators in Limerick during a 10 day period in August 2018. The tourism revenue that an event on the scale of the 2018 Gay Games would be a major bonus to Limerick City, County and the entire Shannon Region as an estimated €50 Million likely to be spent during the games. All of this of course depends on the Site Selection Committee who will report back to the FGG members and a final vote will be taken in October with Team Limerick travelling to Cleveland for the result announcement.
