The organisers of the annual Limerick’s Got Talent competition had promised this year’s contest would be bigger and better than ever and it did not disappoint! Due to their previous successes the competition was held at the Limetree Theatre, Mary Immaculate College. Show producer Mike O Connor tells me “The interest being shown in this year’s competition even at this early stage assured us that we would be in for a very big year.”

He added “The objective of our shows unlike many other professional outfits is to promote the hidden talent that exists in the region and give them a positive platform to encourage them to continue with musical studies and develop at their own pace. Having this in mind we held a series of workshops and open mic nights to give our applicants tips on stage performance, song choice and be comfortable in front of audiences large or small”.

The production team has once again designated the Multiple Sclerosis Limerick Branch as its charity of the year and all profits from the season will be donated to them.

Highlight of this years competition included an overall winner and 5 other prize categories consisting of Best Dance act, Best Band, Best Vocalist, Best Variety act & Best Original Song. The overall winner this year was an incredible singer named Kelly Brosnan.

Kelly Brosnan is a 21 year old singer comes from a family of 5 in Ballyclough , Limerick. She has been singing since a very young age and trained to grade 6 with Emma English in the limerick school of music.  She is no stranger to the stage and has entered many local competitions throughout the years, this being her most successful. This is her 3rd time competing in the Limericks Got Talent competition, in aid of Multiple Sclerosis.  She has taken part in many local productions, musicals and pantos and reached the blind auditions in the voice of Ireland this year. She previously entered as a vocal duo with local performer Adam Haugh but decided to enter as a solo act this time around. Kelly is studying in her final year of general nursing in university college cork and absolutely loves it  but sees singing as her main passion and hopes to pursue it wherever possible. She plays the piano and spends endless amounts of time singing and writing and is currently learning the guitar. She hopes that winning Limericks Got Talent will give her the confidence to try and pursue her dream of working in the music industry  and provide opportunities to share her voice . She was both so shocked and delighted with her win. Congrats Kelly!
