St Munchin’s Community Centre will represent Limerick City in this year’s Pride of Place Awards

St Munchin’s Community Centre was nominated to represent Limerick City in the Pride of Place Awards 2014 earlier this week. The Centre celebrated the nomination with a community day, the many attendants and the many delighted faces made it very clear that the community members already take great pride in their Centre.

“I’m delighted that the community had such a fantastic day,” said Linda Ledger of St Munchin’s Community Centre. “We’re very excited to be representing Limerick City in the Pride of Place Awards this year.”

The Pride of Place Awards focus is on the people, people coming together to create communities in their local areas, and enjoying and taking pride in their accomplishments. The competition specifically recognises the importance of community projects in urban and rural regeneration, their involvement in promoting social inclusion, environmental awareness and heritage. It specifically recognises the many people involved in community initiatives, whose hard work is often overlooked or taken for granted, and celebrates their amazing achievements. Despite the fact that there can only be one winner in every category, Pride of Place recognises and celebrates the work of all groups in the competition.

Chairman of Pride of Place, Tom Dowling, explained “The competition is about showing respect and inclusion for every sector in our communities, young, old, rich or poor and creating communities to which the people are proud to say they belong”.

The Awards celebrate and honour the contributions of community partnerships to society in an array of different categories, including Housing Estates, Community Health Initiatives, and Eco Communities. St Munchin’s Community Centre was nominated to represent Limerick City in the Urban Neighbourhood category.

The winners will be announced at the Pride of Place Awards Ceremony on November 15, 2014.
