On Monday March 23 in Thomond Park Conference Centre, the 2nd Limerick City wide Children and Youth Forum Conference 2015 took place as part of the Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival 2015. The theme of the conference was #knowmorestressless to raise awareness of the importance of well being for all who work and learn in youth and community settings.

The conference, MCed by Richard Lynch the founder of “I Love Limerick”, showcased the excellent and effective work that is being carried out across the Limerick region in the youth sector. The conference gave various Limerick community initiatives an opportunity to network and to share knowledge and experience, through interaction using various workshops.

The Limerick City-wide Children and Youth Forum is made up of 4 local fora, Garryowen, St Marys and the North and Southside of the City. This Forum is made up of members of the community and sets out to work with the youth of Limerick to help improve and develop the youth.

Speaking at the conference was Dr Fergus Heffernan, a renowned Psychologist and Psychotherapist gave his speech on ‘The Biology of Belief- The Power of Hope’. His powerful speech was focused around the impact of negativity and how it supresses our youth in our day to day lives and how through ‘hope, trust, compassion, we learn to own our story and tie everything together.’

The Forum was a great success and was attended by various youth organisations such as: ISPCC, The Blue Box, GOSHH, Barnardos, Limerick Youth Service, and North-side Family Resource.

Committee member Cora Foley was delighted how the day went and said ‘It was a great day of learning that brought people together to share knowledge and learn things in new and interesting ways.’
