Sunday January 25, Michael Ring TD Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport with Special Responsibility for Tourism and Sport opened the new Munster Experience Museum at Thomond Park Stadium before the Munster versus Sale Sharks European Champions Cup match.

The Museum has been upgraded and relocated with assistance from Fáilte Ireland to deliver a unique and enhanced international standard visitor experience on a daily basis. The experience provides a fascinating insight into the history and heritage of Munster Rugby and includes interactive content to be enjoyed by both young and old.

At the opening, Michael Goggin President of MBIRFU said, “The Museum combines the interactive options of today together with the memorabilia from historic games with the great rugby nations of the world and I am sure it will be enjoyed by sporting enthusiasts for years to come.”

The Thomond Park Museum has been a highlight for many tourists who visit Limerick. It is an iconic name around the world of rugby. The new changes made to the Museum will contribute to the experience visitors have in Thomond Park. The Museum can be visited on match days and also on a daily basis as part of the overall Thomond Park Stadium Experience.

Among those in attendance, Cllr Kevin Sheahan, the Mayor of Limerick explained that “In Limerick, we are particularly proud of our association with Munster Rugby – one that stretches back more than a century. The development of this fantastic new Museum celebrates this connection and its location here at Thomond Park acknowledges the stadium’s contribution to the story of Munster Rugby.”

Representing Fáilte Ireland Fiona Monaghan expressed their delight in having “played a role in bringing the new Thomond Park Museum to fruition. The addition of the newly refurbished and interactive museum at Thomond Park is a welcome addition to Limerick City’s tourism offering and a must visit experience for all sports enthusiasts.”

The Director of Thomond Park Stadium, John Cantwell added, “We are delighted to provide this wonderful visitor experience at Thomond Park and are grateful to Fáilte Ireland for assisting with this project. This facility delivers a unique and exciting additional experience for our visitors both on match and non-match days and further enhances the reputation of our stadium as an international class venue and visitor attraction.”
