PHOTOS Paul McNamara named Limericks Got Talent 2015 overall winner

Paul McNamara, 21-year-old from Doon, celebrates this week after winning the overall prize in the Limericks Got Talent 2015 competition. Paul also takes home an award for the best variety act, for his original spoken word poetry performance of his work, “La Femme.”
Paul said about the win: “I am incredibly honoured to be awarded the best variety prize and the best overall prize and especially, considering the quality of talent I was up against. Thanks to the judges, the audience, the fantastic other acts and Mike and Paul O’Connor for putting together the whole show.”
The competition took place at the Lime Tree Theatre, Fri Aug 14, to a supportive, awaiting audience. The event, sponsored by Arthur’s Quay, saw 16 acts perform under five categories; best vocal, best band, best dance, best original song and best variety act.

Limerick’s Got Talent 2015 hosts, Vanessa Flood and Liam Byrne, made contestants feel welcome and assured on stage with their friendly and entertaining banter.
The panel of judges included Nigel Mercier, Lauren McCarthy, Ursula Stokes, Steve Spade and Kellie McGrath, all acknowledging the difficulty of choosing one act as the overall winner.
The selection of contestants ranged, from both young and old, offering performances in a variety of exciting and eclectic styles.
The show was opened with a scene, featuring the entire show’s cast, to raise awareness for the Lisa’s Light foundation. Katie Whelan, founder of Lisa’s Light, spoke before the opening performance: “The idea for Lisa’s Light came from a dream and my dream has come true in the last couple of months.
“I want to thank all the people of Limerick for their support and to let everyone know that it’s okay to not be okay, and that there is hope and always will be hope.”
Funds raised from the event will go the Irish Wheelchair Association.
