The Limerick leg of the inaugural Pieta 100 National Cycle Weekend took place on Sunday, September 27th. The cycle started and finished at Highfield Rugby Club and passed Pieta House Midwest on the first 5km, which has been delivering a service to local communities since 2013.

Over 700 cyclists came out on Sunday morning to take part in the first ever Pieta 100 National Cycle Weekend in Limerick with many more coming out to show their support along the route. While raising awareness of the issues of suicide and self-harm, the cycle also raised much needed funds for the Pieta House service. Cycles also took place in Galway, Cork and Dublin and are set to become part of the Pieta House fundraising calendar.

The cycle began and ended at Mungret GAA club in Mungret Village where cyclists had the option of undertaking a 50k or 100k route. At the beginning of their cycle, cyclists passed the Pieta House Midwest centre, which has been delivering a service to Limerick and the Midwest since 2012. Upon their return they were all welcomed back by family, friends and supporters.

Pieta House Midwest centre manager Martin O’Sullivan said: “Our goal of a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma are replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance and our commitment to offering a free service can only be achieved with the help and support of communities. We’re so grateful for all the cyclists for coming out on Sunday and taking part in what was a hugely successful event. I’d also like to thank the supporters and organisers and the people of Limerick for their support and commitment to Pieta House.”
