Over 140 applications have been received for this year’s Limerick Going for Gold 2016 campaign.

Deputy Mayor of Limerick City and County, Noel Gleeson, welcomed sponsors, supporters and friends of Limerick Going for Gold 2016 at a photo call in the medieval garden in the grounds of Limerick City and County Council July 13.

Mr. Gerry Boland, JP McManus Charitable Foundation, along with representatives from Limerick’s Live 95FM, the Limerick Leader, Limerick Post, I Love Limerick.com, Southern Media and Marketing Design and the Parkway Shopping Centre continue to support the initiative in 2016.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Mayor Noel Gleeson said: “I am hugely grateful to Limerick Going for Gold sponsors, the JP Mc Manus Charitable Foundation and all of our supporters and friends of Going for Gold.  As part of my role as Deputy Mayor I am delighted to see the positive impact of the Limerick Going for Gold Grant and Competition on communities across Limerick City and County and we’re delighted with the number of entries received.”

All of the participating groups have received Limerick Going for Gold Environment Improvement Grant funding ranging from €200– €2,000 to assist them with their environmental work and help with the overall aim of Limerick Going for Gold which is to make Limerick a cleaner, brighter, place to work live and visit.”

These groups are also in with a chance win an award in the Limerick Going for Gold Grand Final, which will take place in October.

Judging for all Limerick Going for Gold entrants is on-going and will take place up to mid September. Categories in this years competition include Limerick in Bloom, Residential Areas (Including Estates) and Challenge Category.

Mr Gerry Boland, JP Mc Manus Charitable Foundation said: “I am delighted to confirm on behalf of the Charitable Foundation that the prize fund for Limerick Going for Gold 2016 is now over €70,000 with a top prize of €10,000 in the Challenge Category and €5,000 in the Limerick in Bloom Category.  We wish everyone the best of luck in the competition and congratulate them on all their hard work to date.”
