The Limerick Celtics Awards 2017 held a 2-day event on the 27 and 28 of May in memory of Becky, a former Limerick Celtics player who sadly passed away at age 11. 

This is the Limerick Celtics 5th year and it included a boys tournament on Saturday with visiting teams from Rathmore, Fr. Mathews Cork and eventual winners Corrib, alongside 3 Celtics teams.

The Limerick Celtics Awards 2017 ceremony took place on Saurday, May 27. In attendance was the Basketball Ireland President, Theresa Walsh and Deputy Mayor Cllr Frankie Daly to award the players with their medals and MVP and MIP awards.

Sunday, may 28, the Limerick Celtic girls had a super tournament with visiting teams from Carlow, Tullamore, Rathmore, Fr. Mathews and 2 Celtics teams. The U12 squad were eventual winners adding this tournament to their already staggering 9 title wins this season.

Becky Macauley’s Mum, Dad and Sister Rachel attended all events this weekend including a special closing ceremony where the players released balloons.

A number of teams had completed league and cup doubles this year and received both their cup and league trophies on the night. Limerick Celtics had their most successful season to date with titles in Cork, North Munster and 20 National titles. The Limerick Celtic players are contributing to school victories at primary, secondary and College levels. Limerick Celtic U16 Boys and Girls also qualified for the All Ireland ‘A’ Championship, making Limerick History. 

The Limerick Celtic team are proud to have 3 players on International development squads, Sadhbh Edwards-Murphy u15, Eve Nealon and Lauren Walsh U17 as well as numerous players on Regional team selections.

The Limerick Celtics have strengthened their bonds with LIT and had #SportChangeslife Victory Scholars Dillon Burns and Megan Cardarelli from the US lead their LIT teams to great victories as well as coaching their underage squads. 

A highlight of this year was a trip with 70 members of the Limerick Celtics club, U12/U14 Boys and Girls across the border to Belfast University to take on Basketball Northern Ireland Academy teams. The Limerick Celtics club are looking forward to visiting again in the near future.
