UL Sport Children’s Run is the largest children’s fun run in the country and features four race distances spanning 1K, 1.5K, 2K and 2.5K. With numbers attending the UL Kids Run growing significantly since it begun from 1,450 in 2013, 2,000 children in 2014, 3,030 children in 2015 to nearly 3,500 in 2016, the turnout this year was better than ever.

All of the runs are off road, starting at the GAA pitch beside the running track and finishing on the running track. The runs were divided into different groups based on school class and all kids raced to the finish line and received a medal after completing the race. Parents were encouraged to run with younger kids and help them along the way.

The cost of entry is €15 per child. €5 of each entry fee is donated to the participant’s primary school. During the registration, the child’s primary school name is entered into the registration form, in order for the primary school to receive their donation.

Managing Director of Barringtons Hospital, Denis Cahalane spoke at the Kids Run in previous years saying, “These children are the parents and adults of tomorrow. Developing a positive relationship with exercise at an early age will have benefits for a lifetime”.

The UL Sport Children’s Run is now established as an integral part of the Barringtons Hospital Great Limerick Run. This fun event is sponsored by UL Sport and is organised by Barringtons Hospital Great Limerick Run in conjunction with Limerick Sports Partnership and the HSE.
