The 2024 All Ireland Scholarships provide financial support to help students pursue third-level education and have become a source of opportunity since being founded in 2008.
The 2024 award ceremony took place on April 25, 2025, at the University Concert Hall in Limerick, where the scholarship winners were celebrated for their academic achievements.
Since the programme’s inception, 1,674 scholarships have been awarded, with 1,348 recipients successfully completing their primary and post-graduate degrees. Attending this year’s ceremony, Sr Agnes Fitzgerald of Cuan Mhuire and sponsor JP McManus expressed their pride in supporting the next generation of leaders.
Following this year’s awards, the organisers said on Social Media, “We had a wonderful day celebrating the 2024 All Ireland Scholarship winners at the University of Limerick last Friday! It was a fantastic occasion as we welcomed students, their families, friends, and teachers. 125 scholarships were awarded across the 32 counties of Ireland.”
The All Ireland Scholarships are awarded annually to gifted students across Ireland, with 125 scholarships announced each year, 100 in the 26 counties of the Republic of Ireland, and a further 25 awarded to students across the six counties of Northern Ireland. The All Ireland Scholarships provide important financial support, ensuring recipients can fully engage in all aspects of university life by easing the financial burdens often associated with pursuing third-level education and beyond.
Two Limerick students were awarded an All Ireland Scholarships which will cover the full duration of their undergraduate studies.
Olga Kyrychenko (Limerick City) and Luke O’Mara (Cappamore) were honoured at the All Ireland Scholarships Awards Ceremony on the 25th of April in University Concert Hall, University of Limerick.
In attendance at the ceremony was All Ireland Scholarships Sponsor JP McManus, Guest of Honour and CEO of Cuan Mhuire Bruree, Sr Agnes Fitzgerald, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Patrick O’Donovan TD, and Director of Skills, Strategy and Policy, Department for the Economy, Northern Ireland, Graeme Wilkinson as well as the family, friends and school representatives of the scholarship recipients.
The success of the scholarship programme is evident not only in the growing number of recipients but also in the formation of the All Ireland Scholarships Alumni Association in 2017. This association, driven by past recipients, fosters a strong community that encourages members to support one another and contribute to the betterment of society.
For Laura Long, a scholarship winner from 2018, the award is something she cherished, saying, “When I found out that I won an All Ireland Scholarship I was absolutely thrilled! I couldn’t believe it and I was just instantly so thankful and grateful.”
With applications now open for the 2025 All Ireland Scholarships, Economy Minster Dr Caoimhe Archibald has encouraged students across Ireland to apply for the scholarships which can help with the “life-changing” experience of education. She said, “Education can be life-changing but many students face a real financial burden. By providing financial support these scholarships will help remove that barrier and open up opportunities to more people. To date 351 students from the north have been awarded a scholarship and it is great news that 25 more are now available.”
