Our Limerick senior hurlers are set to take on Cork this Sunday, July 7, in the 2024 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship semi-final for what has the makings of a clash for the ages
All eyes will be on Croke Park this weekend as Limerick take on Cork in the GAA Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Final as Limerick. The highly anticipated match, which looks to be a sell-out, is scheduled for Sunday, July 7, with throw-in at 4 pm. This clash follows the Camogie quarter-final between Galway and Waterford, which begins at 1:30 pm.
Limerick’s starting 15 sees the return of Shane Finn and Seamus Flanagan who replace the injured Barry Nash and Shane O’Brien.
Cork’s journey to the semi-finals has been nothing short of dramatic. The Rebels’ resilience was on full display last month when they held out against Dublin to advance to the All-Ireland semis. This marks their first appearance in the semi-finals in three years, a significant achievement for the team and their supporters.
Limerick’s last meeting with Cork at Croke Park was in the 2021 All-Ireland final, where John Kiely’s men secured a commanding 13-point victory. However, Cork will draw confidence from their recent Munster round-robin game in May at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, where they edged out Limerick in a high-scoring thriller, finishing 3-28 to 3-26, leading to high expectations from neutrals for another thriller.
The season did not start smoothly for Cork, with initial defeats to Waterford and Clare casting doubts over their campaign, but the Rebel County team got their campaign back on track with successive wins over Limerick, Tipperary, Offaly, and Dublin. These crucial wins have revived Cork’s season, setting the stage for a semi-final encounter with Limerick.
Those unlucky enough not to get a ticket for this weekend’s game can watch the semi-final live on RTE 2, with The Sunday Game Live coverage starting at 1:15 pm.
