Mid West Simon Community has announced its 2024 Annual Fundraising Ball will take place in the Limerick Strand Hotel and will raise vital funds for the charity

Mid West Simon Community announced its Annual Fundraising Ball will take place in the Limerick Strand Hotel on Friday, September 28.

The 2024 Mid West Simon Community Ball will focus on raising funds for the Mid West Simon Social Grocery, a pioneering project designed to combat food poverty in Limerick City. 

With help from a generous donation from the JP McManus Pro Am, the building for the Social Grocery has been purchased and the group is now looking to raise vital funds for its renovation and is scheduled to open in 2025.

The Social Grocery will operate as a social enterprise, offering groceries at reduced prices to those in need and aims to be something much more than just a place to buy food. The space will also operate as a resource centre aimed at empowering individuals and families by providing them with access to fresh, nutritious food, essential items, and a variety of support services and training courses. 

As an organisation, Mid West Simon Community has made significant strides in enhancing its services in collaboration with the local authority including the redevelopment of a once-derelict building in Limerick city centre. This project will provide permanent housing for 5 elderly residents and is due to be completed by October of this year. 

The Mid West Simon Community Annual Fundraising Ball has become a fixture in Limerick’s social calendar. This year’s ball promises to be a night of elegance and enjoyment, with over 200 guests expected to attend. It is a great opportunity for the community to come out and support the work of Mid West Simon Community. 

The success of events like the 2024 Annual Fundraising Ball is critical to maintaining and modernising Mid West Simon Community services. All proceeds from the event will go directly towards the Mid West Simon Social Grocery and other essential services offered by the charity.

Interim CEO for Mid West Simon Community Eleshia Fahy said, “The funds raised at this year’s Ball are crucial in enabling us to expand and enhance our services throughout the Mid West region”.
