2024 Limerick Going for Gold Tidy Towns Wildcards selected for final
2024 Limerick Going for Gold Wildcards have been announced. All 15 groups have been chosen to compete in the 2024 Limerick Going for Gold Grand Final in Limerick Strand Hotel on October 23, 2024
With judging now complete, 10 groups have been selected as Wildcards to compete in the 2024 Limerick Going for Gold Grand Final.
More than €60,000 will be distributed to communities in a range of categories in this year’s competition which sees a total of 15 groups going forward to the 2024 Limerick Going For Gold final.
The finalists of what Mayor John Moran describes as “a remarkable competition each year” include the 10 selected Wildcards and 5 groups selected by Public Vote on Live 95’s Limerick Today Programme which are Broadford, Castleconnell, Kilmallock, Garrienderk and Rockhill/Bruree.
The remaining 10 places were selected as wildcards to compete in the final, and are made up of Askeaton, Athea, Ballysteen, Feenagh, Glenroe, Glin, Kilmeedy, Kilteely, Patrickswell, and Rathkeale.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran praised the efforts of communities across Limerick, saying their efforts “truly shone through in what was an exceptionally competitive year”.
Mayor Moran said, “Congratulations to the ten wildcard finalists. Your dedication and hard work have truly shone through in what was an exceptionally competitive year. The passion and commitment displayed by community groups and residents’ associations across Limerick make this a remarkable competition each year. Every participant deserves recognition for their outstanding efforts in enhancing and beautifying our communities.”
The Mayor of Limerick gave special mention to the JP McManus Benevolent Fund and the media support who help in bringing the competition to Limerick.
He said, “I want to acknowledge the ongoing support of the JP McManus Charitable Foundation and the media partners, who work with the Council to deliver this unique competition in Limerick each year. I look forward to celebrating the Grand Final and the continued excellence of Limerick’s vibrant and hardworking volunteers.”
Judging took place across three categories: Going for Gold Tidy Towns; Limerick Bee Friendly in Bloom; and Residential.
Whittling the entries down to 10 Wildcards was a challenge for the Limerick Going for Gold Judges, Michael Griffin and Pat Shearin.
Mr Griffin commented, “Judging Limerick Going for Gold was once again both a challenging and enjoyable experience. We took time over our Judges Request Awardees and were delighted with the 2024 efforts of community groups and residents’ associations across Limerick”
The Grand Final of Limerick Going for Gold takes place in the Limerick Strand Hotel on 23rd October 2024.
The judges have also added some new awards to recognise the excellent work undertaken by volunteers across Limerick. All will be revealed on the night of the Grand Final!
