WATCH 2024 Run for Fun sets the pace for the Regeneron Great Limerick Run weekend!

More than 2,500 kids from Limerick and beyond did the 2024 Run for Fun, creating a family-friendly atmosphere kicking off the Regeneron Great Limerick Run weekend
More than 2,500 primary school students from Limerick and all over the country came to University of Limerick on May 4 for the incredible Great Limerick Run’s Run for Fun event.
A highly anticipated event in Limerick’s sporting calendar, the Run for Fun is part of the Regeneron Great Limerick Run weekend of activities, providing an exciting opportunity for young athletes to showcase their spirit by taking part in this amazing charity-led event.
Supported by Limerick Sports Partnership, the event gives children of all ages and abilities the chance to take part, promoting inclusivity and fun. Broken into 4 different events, the fun started with the amazing wheelchair event on the track at 2:30 PM, setting the tone for an afternoon of athleticism and camaraderie.
The following events included the Junior and Senior infants 1km route which left the starting mark at 3pm, followed by First, Second, and Third class students tackling a 1.5KM route at 3:45 PM.The grand finale, at 4:30 PM, saw Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth class students taking on a 2KM route which was enjoyed by everyone who took part!
The Run for Fun event really puts on display the family-friendly and community-driven atmosphere of the Regeneron Great Limerick Run weekend, with an enthusiastic crowd made up of parents, grandparents, friends, and family cheering on all the participants on the University of Limerick grounds.
With more than 5,000 people attending on the day the Run for Fun created a brilliant atmosphere to kickstart the bank holiday weekend and helped create a sense of achievement for each runner as they crossed the finish line.
Speaking at the launch of the event, race director Sliabh Wells shared, “The essence of this event is captured in the joyful faces of children as they cross the finish line. It is a great way to integrate the local youth in the festivities of the Bank Holiday Weekend and acts as the perfect curtain raiser for the Regeneron Great Limerick Run the day after.”
