The World Wallball Championship 2024 will feature six days of intense competition as players from around the world descend on University of Limerick for what is anticipated to be the biggest standalone wallball event to date adding to the GAA Handball centenary celebrations this year.

Organised by GAA Handball and sponsored by O’Neills, the games will feature Juvenile grades up to the Elite Senior Open as the governing body welcomes the full world championship games to Ireland for the first time.

Wallball, known for its fast pace and high skill level, is popular globally, with strongholds in the USA, Canada, Mexico, and more, it is considered an accessible sport due to its simplicity, all that is needed is a ball and a wall. This combined with its fitness benefits has seen the sport grow in popularity with internationally with clubs forming in other parts of the world including Netherlands, Italy, and Japan.

Spectators are reminded that this is a ticket-only event, with wristbands provided upon entry. Tickets are available for each day, with children under 16 needing adult supervision, there are ticket options for Adult, Child, and Family Passes. For those eager to catch all the action, a 5-Day Pass covers entry from Sunday to Thursday. However, the Finals on Friday, August 23rd, require a separate ticket.

Speaking about the significance of the event, GAA Handball President, Conor McDonnell said, “2024 is our centenary and will no doubt be a very important year for GAA Handball, so to have the World Championships in Ireland in this year will make even more special.”

David Ward of UL Events added, “These World Championships will bring a sporting and economic boost to Limerick with an anticipated 6000 bed nights. We look forward to working with all stakeholders in providing the athletes an amazing one stop shop Olympic Village experience and to showcase the sport of GAA Handball at its very best.”

According to Karen Brosnahan, General Manager of the Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau, “The Bureau’s goal is to attract business and sports tourism to the Shannon Region to help underpin services at Shannon Airport and deliver an economic impact to the tourism sector in the region. The championship promises to deliver top-tier wallball action, showcasing the sport’s excitement and inclusivity.”

With a packed schedule available on GAA Handball’s social media and website, fans are encouraged to secure their tickets early to be part of this thrilling event in Limerick.
